Năm 1938, Robert Dumas đã lấy cảm hứng sáng tạo từ sợi xích neo của tàu thuyền, đồng thời gợi nhắc đến những bộ yên cương cưỡi ngựa, để tạo nên các thiết kế Chaîne d’Ancre. Sở hữu vẻ đẹp cân bằng giữa nét thanh lịch và tinh thần năng động, đồng điệu với tinh thần của Hermès, thiết kế này nhanh chóng trở thành một biểu tượng đặc trưng của nhà Hermès.
In 1938, Robert Dumas had the idea of drawing inspiration from a ship’s anchor chain, also reminding him of equestrian harness, to design a jewellery. The Chaîne d’Ancre – Anchor Chain – met with immediate success. Its natural balance, its “chic and sporty” allure in line with the Hermès spirit, earned it rapid access to iconic status.
